When have they done that before? It sounds like a pretty stupid tactic to retain players to me.

I'm picking bad communication/crossed wires are behind the whole malarchy. NZPA followed up the SST story (the one which said he was likely on the way out with comments from Rodi and Marco) by asking the club to confirm, the club was under the impression he had signed and said as much. What I think it does mean is he has told the club he is moving on - which is of course evident in him not accepting their offer. Chances of him staying are minimal but seriously, who the hell knows?

Here's hoping he does decide to stay and I'm sure he is more than well aware 99 percent of us are 100 percent supportive of him (although we hate the idea of him going to Victory) and one percent are 100 percent idiots.

Mate, I read the first few pages and skipped to the end to be honest as there is a lot of trash in this post. But if anyone wants to break a leg, come up to Hamilton and give it a try, I'm still training a bit, would love to see you try. The kid is 19 and the decision is his not his dad's. He is a good kid and we should be lucky we have such talent in this country, I wouldn't put my house on him staying.

Of course there is a lot of trash.  There is also a lot of good.  You've got a confused situation, not helped by contradictory statements from all parties and a bunch of people feeling let down then relieved then confused.  What do you expect?

You know what it's like with one Central League game or transfer and the angst, multiply that by 200 to get the amount of people interested in the developments here.

Two or three in that 10,000 are idiots that means 9,998 aren't and perhaps they deserve some credit.  Plenty of people have stated that people shouldn't be stupid about it, but some always know better.

Marco, my young friend.  It still seems you have a choice...(though I can't believe Paul Ifill was talking out of his arse)...these seem to be:

i) You could become YF royalty (i.e., our King).
ii) Or you could do a sideways switch-a-roo and become just another Mel V/Choke-a-laide player (albeit probably a very good one).

Anyway, whatever you decide, I still look forward to the day you run out in White.  It'll certainly be a massive  moment for sure.

PS: Sorry about all the burning, toilet sh*t, etc, it was just fan passion that's all.

For all of the crowing about him not having signed at the Victory - he clearly has no intention of staying with wellington, that much is clear from both the fact he hasn't signed yet and was made clear in the SST call with his father.

They only way he can come out of this with any credibility is if he goes on the record and explains why he is leaving - including if he believes there are problems behind the scenes.

And for all those saying it's ok for him to leave because it's probably the best thing for him this is not a Marco Rojas supporter's forum, it's a Phoenix supporter's forum and the only thing right now that matters to 99% of people on here is what is best for the club.

I can confirm as at 5pm tonight Marco HAS NOT signed for anyone. This is a typical ploy from the phoenix to feed some lines to the paper to try and pressure a young player into staying, looks like that back fired. Thanks to you ball less muppets who hide behind bogus names you have pretty much well made up his mind. It is all good and well slagging someone off in a forum, but having a crack on his facebook page, you lot are no better than Millwall fans, thugs. Why don't you lot grow a set and start looking at why the club is losing the Marcos, Kostas and even Troy Hearfield. Bet you won't like the reasons, it is never the clubs fault is it?
Actually you will know when he has signed for an Aussie team, they will have a press release.

This is a very odd read of the situation - the only reason the club would have announced that he is leaving is because that's what they have been told (and him leaving tallies with the interview with the SST).  It would be an extremely odd bargaining ploy - all it could possibly do is piss someone off.

Soley, hiding behind statements like this as an explanation for departing and not backing them up is just as bad as people attacking Marco.  If you have real information that could justify him leaving then you (or more importantly he or his father) should share it.

This is complete bollocks by the way - FFS we're talking about a 19-year old kid trying to make a major life decision here, and here you are practically condoning all the vitriol and abuse he's received over the past 24 hours.

I would just like to point out FIRST that the major life changing decision was the one made by the Phoenix when they signed him to his first professional football contract

Soley, very few on here would defend attacks to Marco's Facebook page, but I'm sure that Marco knows that there are dicks who support every club who take things too far..not just Millwall, not just Wellington Phoenix. By the way, the Phoenix didn't " feed the paper any lines", they said they thought he had gone!  We already have "a set",as you put it,..we know about Kosta, and Hearfield. we'd love to hear about Marco.

Without condoning any stupidity on forums or invasions of privacy, the huge shock reaction to the announcement Marco was leaving us is a measure of the commitment we have for Marco, our strong desire to see him stay with us for another season, and the passion we have for our club.
If you have a connection to Marco, tell him we respect his right to choose his future, but to remember he has this stepping stone to the future because the Yellow Fever and Wellington Phoenix believed in him and gave him the opportunity. His success has literally come off our backs.

To Marco ..Is leaving for another A-League team,  when your efforts are just coming to fruition in the Phoenix, the way to respect your fans commitment, our loyalty to you? I think not. There is a right way to do this that sees you leave when you choose to, with integrity and respect.

Another season with us...with an outclause for any better offer from outside of the A-League...would see you consolidate your position both in the Nix and the A-League and still keep you in the shop window and available to represent for higher honours on the best of terms.

It is your call Marco.Whatever you choose, all the best with your future career.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

i can think of plenty of reasons why they might leak that he was thinking of signing elsewhere - I don't understand why they would say he had signed unless they believed that was the case.  What could they possibly gain?
