I love this bit in the stuff article

Media Manager/Kit man Russell Gray chased a wayward Mirjan Pavlovic shot across the road in between fielding interview requests.

Looks like he`s in form for a hat trick in the weekend

Why no contract in front of Paston?
Gould back!!! Excellent. Thought he signed a long deal at Perth?

im keen to see us resign pasty and let him retire on his own doing, rather than being unattached. hes been one of the best signings we've ever had!

Gouldy would be great for someone like Basalaj to learn from - I assume the Rangers deal fell through.

Otherwise I heard Crowther could be free

Crowther might be free, but we wont see him back here. He didn't leave on the best terms with Ricki

Any of Jacob Burns, Heffernan, Pantilidis available or Sterjovski back from China?

No thanks to all of those above.

2 of those don't meet the no c@nts requirement. And the I'd pass on the others too.
I'd look to keep a lot of what we have and add the spark to it. That's really all there is between us and the Mariners.

Agree with all of that - except we are better than the Mariners

Any of the Heart players of interest? Don't really think they fit what we are looking for, but interested to see what others think

Melbourne Heart have confirmed the departure of seven players following the end of the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League campaign, including Alex Terra, Rutger Worm, Maycon, Kristian Sarkies, Kamal Ibrahim, Kliment Taseski and Nikola Roganovic.

Not really, they are average at best imports, young Aussies or Sarkies.

Sarkies has always been quite the enigma, but really doubt he's worth the risk.

I'd be interested in Alex Terra to be honest.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

I really like Terra. Quite a special player at his best. but sometimes gives the impression his mind is elsewhere. I'd like to think we could do better (although in reality would be surprised if we do).

I would imagine a LOT of those games have been from off the bench. Which perhaps says something even more poignant.

MIDFIELDERS Dani Sanchez and Vince Lia are both close to signing new deals with the Wellington Phoenix.
The Off-contract pair have been regular starters in Ricki Herbert's preferred XI this season and are set to extend their stay in the capital

I'll start the ball rolling in terms of scouting free agents via Wikipedia that Ricki probably has no idea exist.

Excuse the horrible sentence structure above. Hopefully you get what I mean!

Shopping list for next season: 1 striker, 1 or 2 ball playing midfielders, 1 left wing back and perhaps a right wing back for flavour.

Brwon's departure may mean sanchez gets to play more central with Smith/Lia meaning a left winger is vital if daniel is to leave, a young goal score is needed.

I agree. Sanchez was great in that role that Brown kept hogging.

I think a couple of pacey wings with good delivery to replace Daniel, and for when Bertos is off the boil (again).

A good striker up front, not sure if we'd be better with a poacher the likes of Smeltz / Berisha, or something else.

Probably someone good with their head, a decent strike, and works hard.. almost a younger Greenie.. and maybe a bit taller.

Seems like that type of player would fit our current style of play.

And what about some extra cover for LB and RB. I'd much rather see Muscat back in that DM role.

Who wants to start trawling through random players whose contracts are expiring this season?

Disclaimer: not sure how accurate these lists actually are. I had a look at the A-league and it said Ifill's contract was expiring in 2012.

Still in China, but reportedly unhappy and random speculation has him being linked with the Unicorns.

Just from a VERY quick and cursory glance over Championship players:

James Harper, excellent box to box midfielder, perfect replacement for Brown http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/james-harper/transfers/spieler_13410.html

Daryl Murphy: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/daryl-murphy/transfers/spieler_31312.html ex Sunderland and Celtic, quick striker/winger
, very talented

Ramon Nunez :talented Honduran attacking mid. Signed him for the Nix in football manager and he was class! http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/ramon-nuez/transfers/spieler_39485.html

Michael Tonge: rated him when he was younger, still only 29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Tonge

Danny Webber: Ex Man U, quick striker, has looked great at times in recent seasons http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/danny-webber/transfers/spieler_3551.html

Marlon Harewood: the poor man's Heskey! Fits somewhere between Heskey and Lloyd Owusu http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/marlon-harewood/transfers/spieler_10011.html

The starting 11 definitely needs a few players and we really need some depth in the squad, The bench is what cost us last night, besides losing siggy.
Daniel didn't offer anything and Pav. Nuff said.
A few improvements to the starting 11 and bench worth subbing on and we could take the league.

I actually thought Daniel was quite good coming off the bench last night. Interesting.
