Meh. (Imanix) You don’t define fandom for me.
I don’t mind Corica, he’s a winner and I hope he/AFC win tonight.
I don't like Corica but I hope AFC win.
I've lived in Welly, but am not from the capital. I've lived in many different places around Aotearoa.

I supported the Nix as they were the only NZ team in the ALM. That would be the same for thousands of other Nix fans, including many from Auckland.

So for sure you can be a Nix fan, and still wish AFC well against Australian clubs, especially Sydney.

If you are yes a born & bred Wellingtonian, who has never lived anywhere else in NZ you will likely feel different. And that's fine. It's just an innate feeling you have one way or the other, that no one but you can decide upon.

NZ ain't the UK (or most football mad countries) where club rivalries go back often 100+ years. Comparisons to how a Liverpool fan would never support Everton etc are pointless.
Agree this isnt the UK, im a 70 year old who was brought up  in Wellington and lived in Auckland for 7 years. Growing up there was a very strong provincal rivalry which at times had  much passion. Maybe not as strong as some of the club rivalry  in the UK but just dont get why some say it isnt here in NZ.
Its for that reason i wont cheer Auckland on to win anything tiddlywinks football or what ever. Makes laugh when i hear people say if your  a Nix fan tou should be support AFC when we arnt playing them. To me thats akin to telling a Liverpool supporter to support United when they get back to Europe.
There most definatly are rivalrys in NZ its just many of them are based on provincal or school fixtures but they are there and yes some of them do go back more than 100 years.
People have to also see the bigger picture, if AFC win tonight its better for NZ Football than a loss.

We were not in the finals series at all, so in a way we can't really be too gutted as we weren't competing with AFc.

A lot of the hate is also due to the salary cap exemption, which comes with any new team. If Canberra get's a mens team next season and have the same assistance with the cap, I guarantee A-League fans will not cry as much.

If you’re a Nix supporter and are wanting an Auckland win tonight, you are an absolute disgrace. I hope they get fu(ken spanked and embarrassed.

Slightly detached from the broader point but I don't like this idea that because our rivalry isn't old it doesn't mean as much as stupid.

I understand this forum has a bit of an older demographic (no offence) but many younger nix fans dislike Auckland as much as any rivalry you'll seee in England. Frankly I think it's pretty insulting to act like this rivalry doesn't mean much just because it's young.

Feel how you want about Auckland winning the GF, that's up to each person and their own point of view, but nix fans are allowed to be feel upset about a rival club winning something they haven't and showing them up regardless of how good it is for the country.

Say if AFC lose tonight and it's 2031 and no NZ team has won silverware and they decide to kick out a NZ team. It's not going to be Auckland that's for sure.

Our fans really need to get off their high horse and stop pretending that the Nix are something of note. 19 years and haven't won anything and fans accept this with Domey being great because the Wahinix had one good season.

Nix fans better pray that Bev (only at the nix to redeem her career) is here next season, if not our mens and women team will both struggle.

I mean I get why folks would never support AFC. It’s an innate thing different to each individual. No right or wrong.

Ballance has lived 63 of his 70 years in Welly, he’s a passionate Wellingtonian. Fair play

But again a big number of Nix fans ain’t from the 04. It’s just that for 17 years the Phoenix were the only horse in Aotearoa to get in behind. Meanwhile you have 90 odd EFL clubs to choose from, and have since your arrival into this world

Personally I hate almost all comparisons to UK football and how we should behave as they do. From having no finals football, every “proper league” needing pro/rel, to this issue of some fans having their 2nd team as the derby rival. For example a finals series is part of our culture across all sports. NZ and Australia ain’t England, and thank fuck for that.

With all due respect to my fellow Nix followers - sorry but nobody is going to define for me what a Nix fan should or should not be saying doing or supporting, on a day when Nix is not playing
If you think for a moment that the Nix-hate we experienced from the Australian supporters (and pundits) over the years has anything to do with Wellington, you are misguided.  Their scorn and disdain was based on national identities.  It has always been Kiwi-bashing. It is still is, except they've learned to respect at least one team from New Zealand, albeit grudgingly.  I look forward to the same respect being gained by the Nix which I have supported over many years and continue to do so.
I have never lived in Auckland, but I lived in Sydney well over a decade, all my twenties and early thirties.  But I would prefer Auckland to win tonight, because after 34 years in Christchurch I am an adoptive New Zealander first, and Auckland winning would be good for New Zealand football.
If you do not believe me, check out today's Stuff article and read the comments underneath. A bloke was seriously saying that if Auckland wins it will make "soccer" even more popular, and what will happen to rugby then since we do not have enough good sportspeople for both codes.
Seriously.

Agree with this.

If you really don't want AFC to win tonight, don't support NZ at the WC too (as you don't want what is best for NZ Football).

A win for AFC is bigger than any rivalry we have with them, because I guarantee if it was us vs Sydney, we'd have more support from the AFC fan base.

Us fans really need to be worried about the future of useless David Dome (who the mens aren't winning instead of the result of the GF we aren't part of).

I say this because ever since AFC have entered the comp, we have been second best with poor decision after decision and I want us to win games and silverware.
