Because, despite what you may believe, "boring" is not an objective quality. If you were saying "sloppy finishing", I'd 100% agree with you, but I honestly wasn't bored today.

Seriously, what are you talking about?

'Finishing' - you've got to create chances to finish.  We created none.

I calls 'em like I sees 'em, and what I saw was some lovely play to get the ball in the box and then bugger-all idea what to do with it once it was there. Totori, for example, did all the hard work and then seemed befuddled about what to do if defenders actually went at him.

Wanted to comment on this. Jets have been getting 12-13k, and you get loads of Sydney fans traveling for NSW games. It isn't surprising they got a bumper crowd.

18th Dec 2010 Attendance: 6,053

23rd Dec 2011 Attendance: 6,471

Those were our figures for the previous 2 games before Xmas.

I reckon the Heart game will struggle for 5k.

Hopefully the buy 1, get 1 free will dragged a few in. I'm bringing 2 extras.

What % of registered seniors and juniors from CF region is our crowd figure. Would be interesting as this should be the major fan base.

Also, why would people go to the game today , when it is. 2 for 1 in just a few days time?

Allegedly

With the coupon it was 2 games for one so a few will have taken that option.

That's what I thought last week, but no. It's 2 for one for Thursday only, not the CCM game)

I've been thinking next season it would be great to fill the stadium for a game. Optimistic... maybe? Possible.. Why Not?

Given that we would need not only the football community to support it but also the general public some serious thinking outside the square is in order and crafty marketing to get the bums on seats.

Some possible ideas to target the general public to come along:

- Some type of Guinness world record attempt, strong global / local media coverage.
- Match profits to charity, patrons attendance to back a cause not just club.
  - Maybe donation only entry.
  - Buy one entry get one free.
- Brand the event on the basis of the family day out / bouncing castles / off field events.
- Local / NZ bands at half time or concert after match, additional draw card.
- Stalls on the concourse outside venue, like a market.. International Food, maybe?
- Fireworks display ( Funded by corporate sponsorship )
- Premium seats sold in blocks as a corporate event.
- Celebrity game post match.
- Promote the event as “Be a Wellingtonian” wear yellow for a good cause or similar.

Lets get talking, make something happen.

Really good ideas Rotamota. Last time we filled the stadium though, it was because we were winning - like we were winning a lot. We got on such a hot winning trot that we filled the ground in the playoffs. When we start winning again, and get a home final or two - we will fill the stadium, again. Sad but true. But it's not Manchester here.

Hurricanes may be in the same boat shortly. Poor first up home crowd, loss away from home, and if they lose to Crusaders this week, they will be in early season crowd trouble. This town won't tolerate losers any more. Simple.

True that - but I don't think we necessarily need that to attract a big crowd hence the suggestions. These are focused on the greater community not just fans that care about the score line. Remember outside the square!... inside the square is what you just said.

Make it free with free parking and if the team is on a losing streak you still wouldn't get a full stadium. Sad but it's true until NZ sporting fans mature a bit.

How many people go to the sevens and don't care about the rugby? If NZ wins or loses? Why do they go?... Simple the atmosphere. I reckon we can create that atmosphere ( if not better ) and recruit a few on the way. Why not make it annual event, initiation for new students, corporate event, family event with fireworks, something that is always crossed on peoples calendars as a must attend. If its charity based this will also extend the reach much further. I love the club and I'm sure with a chance to experience it ( without solely going to a phoenix game only ) many other people will also follow suit.

the 7's are a little different to a 90 minute game, it's a clear party at the stadium versus one match.

Yeah the 7's are a big party but I know for a fact that most of the extras I get to come to games come because of the atosphere and not the football. One friend doesn't even understand the rules and she doesn't want to learn them, she just loves to come along, laugh at the chants and have fun.

So given your fact just get 30-odd thousand others and it's sorted. Too easy, lock the thread.

If you read the comments above, it gives possible ideas to get away from the idea of it just a "90minute game" but a family / corporate night out. I'm not trying to compare the 7's to football merely pointing it out as one of the many examples where it works.

Then a celebrity match pre-game could work so as to bolster the afternoon "event". But you are only talking a one-off event every season aren't you so I guess that might work. Maybe 2 or 3 big "event" games per season might work.

Would rather work went into  increasing the crowds for every game rather than just focusing on one game and then have it drop back to rubbish afterwards.Focusing on one game is far to risky all it takes is the weather to turn to shit and it wont matter how much effort has been put in the crowds wont turn up.

Indeed so we need to come up with further ideas for general matches but having this type of event would provide ample opportunity to get alot more people involved in sequent matches. Brand awareness or should we say atmosphere awareness.
